Panama Canal expansion celebrates 3rd anniversary with transit of 6500 ships
Madrid, Jun 26 (EFE).- The expansion of the Panama Canal marks its third anniversary with a transit availability of 99.7% in the last 36 months and the passing of  6,500 ships, meaning the construction firms have met the objective set by the Canal Authority - 99.6% -, according to Spanish company Sacyr on Wednesday. The consortium Grupo Unidos por el Canal, led by Sacyr, was in charge of the project, which was built between 2009 and 2016, for the construction of a new set of locks 427 metres long, 55 metres wide and 18.3 metres deep, which allows post-Panamax ships with a larger load capacity to pass.
